Wow!! Today was absolutely amazing! We flew from New Delhi to Chennia, then we went to the Hindus most important festival named Deepavali or the "festival of lights". This is the lighting of lamps and candles named Diyas. We also lit firecrackers throughout the day and into the night. These lamps are filled with a rich oil that signifies triumph of good over evil. The glow that emitted from all of the lamps and candles was so beautiful. It was a a delightful sight to see. If you ever get the opportunity to visit India, you must go for Deepavali! We bought and wore a very special handwoven piece of cloth called a dothi. We ate great foods and sweets that we all enjoyed. All of us agreed that these were the best sweets we had ever eaten. After spending four hours at the festival, we were tired and anxious to return to the hotel and get some rest. We are having the time of our lives. We will post more information tomorrow.
